‘Scream 6’: Hayden Panettiere to reprise the role of ‘Scream 4’

Fans who had been clamoring to see Hayden Panettiere return to the “Scream” series got their wish.

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday that Panettiere will appear in the upcoming sixth film, reprising her role from the 2011 film Scream 4, in which she played Kirby Reed, a Woodsboro High School student and horror fanatic, who ultimately survives the Ghostface killer in the film.

News of the fan-favorite’s return comes after Spyglass and Paramount confirmed that four survivors from last year’s “Scream” movie will also return for the new movie. Gina Ortega and Melissa Barrera star as sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter, respectively. Barrera’s character is revealed to be the biological daughter of Billy Loomis (the original “Scream” killer played by Skeet Ulrich). Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are twin brothers Chad and Mindy Mix Martin (nephew and niece of Jimmy Kennedy’s original Randy Mix character “Scream”).

The new movie follows the quartet as they leave Woodsboro behind and attempt to start a new chapter, but with details about the film’s plot kept confidential, it’s unclear exactly how Kirby fits into the picture. Principal photography is set to begin in early summer, with the untitled film in theaters March 31, 2023.

The sixth “Scream” will be directed by the filmmaking team behind the fifth, with Silence Radio’s Matt Pettinelli Olbin and Tyler Gillett directing, and James Vanderbilt and Jay Busick co-writing the screenplay.

Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Chirac of Project X Entertainment serve as producers on the new project, with original “Scream” screenwriter Kevin Williamson, CEO Chad Villa (3rd member of Radio Silence) along with Spyglass’ Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre and Ron Lynch, Cathy Conrad and Marianne Maddalena.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Panettiere is best known for starring in hit shows such as “Heroes” on NBC and films, including “Remember the Titans” (opposite Denzel Washington), and “Castudi” (with Viola Davis). ), “I Love You Beth Cooper” and “Bring Her: All or Nothing” and “Snow Princess”. Panettiere’s return to the “Scream” franchise marks her first acting gig since she starred in the ABC series “Nashville” from 2012-2018.

Panettiere is represented by Mainstay Entertainment. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news of the actor’s involvement in the film.
